In an effort to prevent Poland’s building slump from deepening, the Public Procurement Office UZP is working to create a new public tenders law. The new regulations will allow developers to better investigate the contactors they’re doing business with. The draft for the new regulations has already been sent out to all members of the Polish Association of Construction Employers, who are expected to make an official statement in the near-term.
The new draft by UZP gives the contracting authority the right to require a list of the contracts the contractors has signed and the works it has delivered during the past five years. “We just got [the draft], and we’re currently waiting for the opinion of all our members,” Marek Michałowski told the daily Puls Biznesu. “At first glance, the intentions seem justified, but those companies that act fairly need to be prepared for a growth of bureaucracy.” He says that the UZP has clearly met the expectations of the better part of the sector, but only time can tell if the regulation will have any real or positive effect.
