New subway planned for 2014

9 August 2012

The new subway line of Budapest, line 4, could open for commuters by the first quarter of 2014. The trains, supplied by Alstom, are to be delivered at the end of the year in order to begin trial operations in 2014. The trains will be similar to those used on metro line 2. The last station of the subway should be ready by the middle of 2013. The National Transport Authority has approved the Alstom trains, while the overall technical readiness of Metro 4 is currently 75 percent. István Tarlós, mayor of Budapest, said at a press conference that the construction of Metro 4 can neither be stopped nor finished in a standard way, though he wouldn’t elaborate. DBRE Metro Project’s board, however, said that the building will be carried out according to the laws and regulations.
