New Tesla factory could go up near Prague

21 November 2016

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is reportedly considering opening a second Gigafactory to the north of Prague. Construction of Gigafactory I is currently underway in Nevada and is expected to be the largest building in the world. The facility will allow Tesla to speed up production of lithium-ion batteries. The factory will use renewable energy and employ a staff of 6,000. Gigafactory 2, to be located in Europe, is slated to produce lithium-ion batteries as well as electric cars, allowing Tesla to drastically increase its car production. Musk recently acquired a German company, which should be involved in the design and development of the second Gigafactory. He is scouting locations in the Czech Republic due to the high lithium deposits in Dubí, North Bohemia. Skilled labor is also considerably cheaper in the Czech Republic than in Western Europe or the US.
