7 March 2024

Nextbike has become the new operator of the Łódź Public Bike System, the company has announced. As part of the contract, the company will deliver bicycles, install racks and provide maintenance for the new system. The cost of the task is PLN 7.5 million.

“Łódź is a city that has played a key role in the history of our company. It is here that our bicycles became hugely popular between 2016 and 2019, reaching a total of more than 6 million rentals. Our company perfectly understands the challenges of managing bike sharing systems in Polish cities. Our expertise in this area is the result of many years of experience in managing similar systems, such as Wrocławski Rower Miejski or Veturilo. We are convinced that our knowledge and skills will allow us to successfully cope with these tasks in Łódź. I am glad that we will be able to support investments in sustainable public transport here, which, together with an efficient public bicycle system, is key to building modern cities,” said Nextbike Group CEO Tomasz Wojtkiewicz.

The new bicycles are fourth-generation vehicles, i.e. those with an O-lock – a mechanism that secures the bicycle in the form of an “O” shaped clamp integrated into the frame. Once the bike is rented, the lock opens automatically. In addition, thanks to a GPS receiver attached to the bike, the operator can track the location of the bike. The solutions help to manage the fleet, increasing the safety of Lodz residents and the entire system.

Nextbike Poland is restructuring the delivery and operation of self-service urban bicycle rentals. It has been operating in Poland since 2011. It has been listed on the NewConnect market since 2017.
