Niedzielski: Poland joined the EU COVID-19 certificate system

2 June 2021

Poland is now connected to the EU COVID certificate system and can benefit from the possibility of issuing certificates that comply with all EU standards in this area, said Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski. The formal entry into force of the certificate, which facilitates traveling throughout the EU, is scheduled for 1 July.

“Poland is among […] countries that are now connected to the EU system and no longer test, but basically use the option of issuing a certificate that complies with all standards” – said Niedzielski during the conference.

He informed that from today you can download the certificate from the Internet Patient Account in two versions: electronic with a QR code and traditional (in pdf format, containing all the information stored in the QR code). At the same time, the Ministry of Health wants to launch the option of showing the certificate from the level of mobile devices in the mojeIKP application and in the mObywat application by June 25.

The certificate is to be valid in three versions:

– After vaccination – for one year (activates 14 days after receiving the second dose of the vaccine or after the first dose if the vaccine is a single dose)

– After the test – for 48 hours after the PCR test (antigen tests are not included)

– After contracting COVID-19 – for 180 days (activates 11 days after receiving a positive SARS-CoV-2 test result)

“At the moment, the application approval process is underway, which allows for the reading of the ego certificate – an application widely available for any mobile device in the Apple or Android store. We are prepared to have this application available around June 10” – said the minister.

Seven Member States – Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Croatia and Poland – have joined the gateway and started issuing the first EU certificates. Although the regulation will apply from 1 July, all Member States that have passed the technical tests and are ready to issue and verify certificates can now start using the system on a voluntary basis. The regulation is to come in with a six-week phasing-in period for those Member States that need more time.

To enter into force, the regulation has yet to be formally adopted by the European Parliament and the Council.
