The state of the epidemic will be changed into an epidemic threat from May 16 this year, said Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski.
“I have made the decision to transform the epidemic into an epidemic emergency from May 16. The forecasts show that the epidemic is becoming endemic,” Niedzielski said during a press conference.
“We are constantly monitoring the situation. Today’s 611 infections reflect the average number of cases in recent weeks,” he added.
The minister indicated that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients is around 1,100 people.
“According to doctors, however, these are not as severe cases as in the case of the Delta mutation. Hospitalizations are also much shorter,” said Niedzielski.
In April, the minister informed that the decision to change the state of the epidemic in force for more than two years, introduced in March 2020 in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, to the state of epidemic threat will be made in April. At the same time, Niedzielski informed that the COVID passport for people who took a booster dose will be valid in Poland indefinitely.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, 4,140 (including 368 re-infections) confirmed cases of coronavirus infection were registered for the period April 28 – May 4. As of May 3, there were 1,125 hospitalized in hospitals due to COVID.
Since the start of the pandemic, the number of confirmed coronavirus infections has been 5,997,998.
