The technical condition of the Lánchid bridge, one of Budapest’s most iconic Dabune crossings, has become critical. The local council of Budapest is intent on remedying the situation and will begin to carry out reconstruction as soon as possible. The whole bridge was renovated 24 years ago, along with minor repairs that were carried out in in 2002. The new reconstruction, which could potentially last up to one year to complete, would cost HUF 10 bn, but it’s unlikely to begin before the end of 2014. The bad news is that the cash-strapped city currently does not have sufficient resources to finance the project.
