No Hungarian talks imminent, says IMF

22 March 2012

Iryna Ivaschenko, the Hungarian representative of the IMF, denied reports that IMF representatives would be holding talks with government officials in April and May. She says that the IMF will need to see a strong commitment on the part of Hungary to doing a deal first. Analysts say Hungary is currently ahead of schedule on coming up with the funding it needs this year, thanks to an unexpectedly high appetite among investors for risk. However, a deal with the IMF is seen as essential if the country is to secure its mid-term funding needs.
