Number of building permits for residential buildings in Bucharest dropped by 25 percent

2 February 2021

The number of permits for residential buildings has decreased in Bucharest and Ilfov in the last 3 years by 25 percent, from over 6,200 permits in 2017 to 4,700 in 2020, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics. The main reason behind this decrease is the construction of blocks of flats, which has increased compared to the construction of personal homes in the last 5-6 years, explained Bogdan Funieru, CEO of Neomar Consulting, a construction consulting company. The residential represents 20-22 percent of the construction market in Romania, and one in five homes built is in the Bucharest-Ilfov area.
