Passenger traffic at Budapest Airport in the first two weeks of September has decreased by more than 90 percent compared to 2019. Statistics published earlier this month expected a drop by 70-80% this fall. Now according to airport head of communications Katalin Valentínyiwe are to expect a similar drop in the autumn months. Just last Saturday only 22 flights departed from Budapest which is 3-5% of last years daily traffic. Airlines are already announcing reduced capacities due to the drop in demand. The drop in air travel is caused by the travel restrictions for people visiting Hungary. At the same time the cargo volumes at Budapest Airport have only dropped by 3%.
