Number of Polish registrations of passenger cars with a plug increased by 93% yoy in 2021

The number of registrations of electric passenger cars and plug-in hybrids in Poland increased by 93% yoy to 19,408 vehicles in the period January-December 2021, according to the electromobility meter, launched and updated by the Polish Alternative Fuels Association (PSPA) and the Polish Automotive Industry Association (PZPM). The number of registrations of fully electric cars in 2021 amounted to 8,938 units (4,832 units in 2020), and plug-in hybrids – 10,470 units (5,217 units a year earlier).

At the end of December 2021, 38,001 electric passenger cars were driving on Polish roads. Fully electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 49% (18,795 units) of this part of the vehicle park, and the remaining part (51 %) were plug-in hybrids (PHEV) – 19,206 units. The fleet of electric vans and trucks was 1,657 units. The fleet of electric mopeds and motorbikes continues to grow. December consisted of 10,650 units, as well as the number of hybrid passenger cars and vans, which increased to 325,136 units. At the end of last month, the electric bus park in Poland increased to 651 units. From January to December 2021, the electric bus fleet increased up to 220 zero-emission vehicles, indicated in the report.

As the number of electric vehicles increases, the charging infrastructure is also developing. At the end of December 2021, there were 1,932 publicly accessible charging stations for electric vehicles in Poland (3,784 points). 30% of them were fast DC charging stations and 70% were slow AC chargers with a power less than or equal to 22 kW. In December, 119 new, generally accessible charging stations (240 points) were launched.

“The end of the year, in line with our expectations, ended with a strong accent. Based on 12-month data, almost one-fifth BEV passenger cars were registered in December and 21% of publicly available charging stations were commissioned. Despite some concerns about the shortage of semiconductors in 2022. We are entering with a large dose of optimism. mobility including its most important components: electric vehicles, charging stations and the necessary electricity infrastructure. All this means that this year has a chance to become a breakthrough period for the development of electromobility in Poland,” said the managing director of PSPA Maciej Mazur.

“Behind us is the difficult year of 2021, in which the semiconductor crisis caused a very large turbulence on the automotive market. As the number of semiconductors in low-emission vehicles is much greater than in conventional vehicles, it is even more pleasing that the registrations of cars with alternative drives are increasing. In 2021, Poland. Over 34% of them were registered. it is a fact, but despite this, this year will be a time of strenuous legislative work, as we are facing the entry into force of several directives and regulations, a large part of which will apply to low-emission vehicles,” added the president of PZPM, Jakub Faryś.

PZPM is the largest Polish organization of employers in the automotive industry, currently associating 50 companies: manufacturers and representatives of manufacturers of motor vehicles, motorcycles, scooters and body manufacturers in Poland.

The Polish Alternative Fuels Association (PSPA) is the largest industry organization in Poland, creating the electromobility market and promoting zero- and low-emission technologies in transport.
