O2 saw its consolidated operational profit rise of 3.7 percent to CZK 9.6bn for the first quarter of 2020, thanks to increased revenues for at least the first two months of the year, before the coronavirus ruined things. “The announcement of the state of emergency then had a negative impact on income from incoming roaming calls on the sale of telephones and to a certain extent also services,” wrote the company in a report on its results. In January and February the company produced the 12 percent y-o-y growth of its operational profit. “Results for the first quarter that exceeded the consensus and our own estimates on all levels. Compared to our expectations, 02 achieve a higher growth in the local fixed line segment thanks to ICT and Internet and television services,” said Patria Finance analyst Martin Cakl. Jindřich Fremuth, chairman of the board and O2 Czech Republic said the crisis had sped up the digital transformation of O2 itself which would enable it to achieve greater efficiency in the future. The company has 5.8 6 million registered customers in the Czech Republic.
