Pelhřimov Hospital is significantly expanding the capacity of its medical services this year thanks to a newly built pavilion. This significant project, financed by the Vysočina Region as the client and main investor, required an investment of CZK 592 million excluding VAT. The renowned design and construction consultancy company Obermeyer Helika a.s. was responsible for the architecture, design work, structural and technological HVAC solutions. It managed to complete the demanding task of designing and implementing a new hospital pavilion in passive standard, while achieving maximum energy self-sufficiency of the building and meeting all the requirements for a modern medical building.

Ing. Jiří Houda, Chief Project Engineer at OBERMEYER HELIKA, who was involved in the design of the new pavilion from the very beginning, says: “Building a hospital in a passive standard brings certain complexities due to the specific requirements for medical operation and environmental hygiene. It was necessary to integrate various technical equipment into the hospital pavilion design in order to meet the parameters set by the operation and at the same time be energy efficient. It can be said that this was a demanding process that required careful planning, close collaboration between professional specialists and compliance with strict normative requirements. We can see that overcoming these challenges has paid off. It will bring long-term benefits and contribute to the sustainability and efficiency of the healthcare facility.”

The new pavilion, which was designed using BIM technology, is particularly interesting because it is a public healthcare building constructed to a passive standard. “Energy-efficient buildings are now the standard, especially for a building that will be in operation for decades,” points out Ing. Jiří Houda adds: “It is necessary to remember that, for example, compared to apartment buildings, hospitals have their own specific requirements for operation and environmental hygiene, which require extensive technical equipment. Achieving an energy balance despite these requirements was an interesting challenge for us. During the planning process, we consulted the proposed solutions with the doctors and incorporated their suggestions into the final design. The result is a building that not only meets the requirements of a modern medical building, but also fully meets the needs of doctors, medical staff and patients.”

Director of the Pelhřimov Hospital Ing. Jan Mlčák, MBA comments on the several years of cooperation between the team of experts from the Pelhřimov Hospital and the designers and architects Obermeyer Helika. The result is a modern pavilion which, thanks to the connection of three overhead connecting bridges with the key hospital facilities, contributes to the efficient functioning of the healthcare facility as a whole. These connecting elements significantly simplify the operational links between the adjacent inpatient pavilions and the acute medicine pavilion, enabling faster and more efficient communication and collaboration across different departments. The overhead bridges will also contribute to increased patient and staff comfort as well as greater efficiency and optimisation of medical care.”

The new five-storey, architecturally attractive pavilion will provide modern facilities for the paediatric, gynaecology and obstetrics and neurology departments. The pavilion’s spaces are specifically designed to provide greater comfort for patients and their families. The modern rooms are equipped with all the necessary facilities and create a pleasant and peaceful environment for quick recovery. The Family Care Pavilion promotes collaboration and exchange of experience between the various departments and specialists in the hospital, which will improve the quality of care and enable the implementation of the latest procedures and treatment methods. These benefits contribute to strengthening the entire hospital, improving healthcare in the region and providing better comfort and support for patients and their families.
