October construction contracts collapse in South Florida

A new report from Dodge Data & Analytics shows that South Florida builders encountered a large drop in construction contracts during October compared to 2014. The nearly $354 million in residential construction contracts last month represents a 53 percent drop off from $758 million in contracts signed last October. Non-residential construction activity collapsed as well, down 47 percent from the $357 million spent last October.

The research firm found that new construction for both residential and commercial markets throughout Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties had already surpassed, by $700 million, the results for all of 2014. Last year, the two markets combined saw $7.45 billion in construction spending
