Olomouc City Hall wants to buy the Namiro office building for CZK 400 million

Olomouc City Hall wants to buy the administrative part of the Namiro building near the city centre for CZK 398 million. The purchase of the property was approved by the city council on Monday and must still be approved by the city council. Councillors are expected to act on the Namiro building in March. The city will prepare a payment plan.

The Namiro building in Palackého Street was built by the company of the same name. In addition to offices, the property also contains shops and apartments, which have their own owners. The city leased about 6,400 square meters of office space in the administrative part of the building for 20 years in 2013. It moved officials who then had offices in several historic buildings in the centre of Olomouc. The town hall sold these buildings.

The city pays about CZK 20 million annually for renting office space in the Namiro building. “We supported the purchase of Namiro. It is better to own the building than to pay absurd rents,” the ProOlomouc movement, which is part of the city hall coalition, said on social media.

According to ProOlomouc, the city has twice received offers to buy the Namiro building in recent years, and the city hall has unsuccessfully sought other building options for city hall officials. For example, the former post office building on Horní náměstí was on its radar, but the transaction was eventually abandoned. The use of a part of the Hanácké barracks is also under consideration, but it is still owned by the state and a study of its usability has not yet been commissioned.

“Comparing the parameters of all available options, the offer to buy the Namiro building for less than CZK 400 million is the best economically. Despite reservations about the building, from its inglorious history, to its complicated co-ownership, to the fact that Namiro is far from a quality public office building, we supported the purchase. It is better to pay off your own property than to pay at least another 260 million in rent and have nothing at the end,” the ProOlomouc movement said.
