The Austrian energy company OMV has been cleared by Norwegian authorities to build five wind farms that would power the Gullfaks and Snorre oil fields in the North Sea. The new wind farms would serve as a way to reduce the emissions given off by the two fields. OMW is involved through a 19 percent stake in the Gullfaks field. The wind farms will be located about 140 kilometers from the coast between the Snorre and Gullfaks platforms. Work is set to begin in late 2022. The project, called Hywind Tampen, is scheduled to begin in late 2022. It’s part of an ongoing program by OMV to reduce its emissions through greater energy efficiency and reliance of renewable energy sources.
