One-quarter of Romanians behind on loans

More than 200,000 Romanians are over 30 days late on bank loans, according to data from the Romanian Credit Risk Bureau.

At the end of May Romanians were over €20bn in debt, of which €1.1bn is considered to be late in payment.

The level of overdue loans went up ten-fold compared to the same period in 2008, while the number of people who are more than a month late with their payments has doubled.
