Opposition in Brno’s housing committee suspected manipulation of up to 40 apartments

In the past two years, representatives of the opposition, who were part of the housing committee and have been drawing attention to irregularities for a long time, suspected manipulation of 30 to 40 apartments at the Brno-střed town hall. Housing commission member Kristýna Fuchsová (Žít Brno) told journalists today. Due to the case of manipulation of apartments in Brno-střed, eight people were charged, two of them are in custody. One is the chairman of the housing committee and ODS politician Otakar Bradáč, the other is the executive of a real estate agency Zdeněk Červinka.

There were 13 members in the housing commission, of which four seats belonged to the opposition. “For every fifth to sixth apartment, the allocation was suspicious because someone jumped over someone for reasons that were incomprehensible to me. It all concerned nice locations such as Bayerova, Botanická or Hrnčířská streets,” said Fuchsová.

The housing committee decides on the allocation based on the point evaluation, then the council must confirm it. Interested parties receive points, for example, for employment and the like. Half a point can be allocated by each committee member. “Ultimately, the representatives of the coalition parties can use half points to make a person jump to first place. It would therefore be appropriate to cancel half points,” says Fuchsová.

The chairman of the control committee Monika Lukášová Spilková (Pirates) drew attention to the strange allocation of apartments. She also made various recommendations with her colleagues in the housing commission, which, according to her, were ineffective. “We recommended that if one of the candidates jumped significantly, that the reason be given. If one of the candidates sent a letter of motivation, which is not a condition, we demanded that the data be verified in the event of his selection,” said Lukášová Spilková. According to her, for example, it turned out that some people lied about their health or living situation in their letters. Another proposal was to check data on people and substitutes with their employers.

Lukášová Spilková also stated that representatives of the opposition drew attention to irregularities both at the committee and at the housing commission and at the council, they also turned to the municipality, but nothing led to correction. When asked if the opposition representatives turned to the police, she replied that they had been cooperating with the police in recent years, but could not say more in view of the situation.

Lukášová Spilková, as the leader of the Piráti, Želení and Žít Brno group, therefore proposed to the mayor Vojtěch Mencl (ODS) to consider the creation of another coalition, rather than continuing the current cooperation between the ODS and ANO, for which she drew attention to the strange allocation of apartments in the last election period. However, representatives of ODS and ANO have already signed a coalition agreement.

The police interviewed 30 people in connection with the case of manipulation of municipal apartments, conducted 28 house searches and searches of other premises. In addition to Bradáč and Červinka, Radim Suchánek, who worked at the Real Estate Administration Brno-střed, Červinka’s companion Eva Vágnerová and Kateřina Pospíšilová, Jiří Povolný, Ludvík Kraus and Marek Horvath are also accused, who, according to Czech Television, are connected to the Brno real estate market.
