Orban: EU funding for Romania should triple

30 March 2012

The minister of European Affairs, Leonard Orban, said that Romania wants to attract triple the amount in structural and cohesion funds than it managed to do in the in the first five years since European Union accession.
Until September 2011, Romania managed to draw down just €1.2bn, faring poorly compared to Poland, which pulled in €18bn in its first five years of EU membership. Orban said he hopes to see at least €6bn in European funding come in, of which €2.5bn would be allocated to agriculture.
