Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met German chancellor, Angela Merkel in Berlin on Thursday. After the meeting Merkel said that it is understandable why Hungary is not concerned with euro adoption at the moment, adding that Hungary has made substantial progress in the area of social reforms recently. Orbán promised a new economic action plan for next year, but insists that the country’s fiscal situation is by far the strongest it’s been in the past 30 years.
Since the current Hungarian government came to power, German companies have invested nearly €5bn and built 18 new plants in Hungary. Merkel said she was satisfied with the way Orbán’s government had reacted to EU recommendations on changes to some of its legislation.
