Order for construction of Brno’s by-pass road cancelled

25 February 2020

The Czech anti-monopoly office (UOHS) has cancelled an order for the construction of the second phase of the Brno ring road. Work was due to begin in the spring, but UOHS ruled that the tender process for the project was flawed. The Slovak company Deštrukprojekt had filed objections to the conditions of eligibility, claiming successfully they were excessive and without grounds. The estimated cost of the second phase of work was CZK 1.6bn. The two bids which were considered were for CZK 1.948bn (a consortium between Eurovia, Hochtief a Subterra) and another from Porr for CZK 2.214bn. Work on the first portion of the new 4-lane express road began in 2018.
