Vítkovice Steel is planning to close its plant in Ostrava by September 2015. The company decided to stop production at one of its units, which means that a permit it needs to keep the steelworks plant operational will expire on Sept. 30, 2015. The company is currently putting together a phase-out plan to minimize the harm to the region’s employment levels, said Vítkovice Steel spokesman Jaromír Krisica. Vítkovice Steel has more than 1,000 employees, 250 of which work at the Ostrava plant. It is not clear how many people will lose their jobs.
