Ostrov in Karlovy Vary wants to build a business incubator from the dilapidated premises on Jáchymovská Street. For several decades, the town hall did not invest in the municipal land where the technical yard used to be. Now the city plans to build new halls there, where there will be business premises and warehouses for rent. The cost of revitalizing the area is estimated at CZK 150 million, deputy mayor Marek Poledníček told reporters today.
The city management has completed a study for the reconstruction of the area, which includes demolition and construction work. “Three completely new workshops will be created there, where the current car workshops can move. Furthermore, three large-capacity warehouses, where a humanitarian warehouse may be needed. A completely new building will be built in place of the old exchange station. We will adapt the whole thing so that the facade looks like a commercial parterre, where there will be entrances from the street and storefronts,” said Poledníček.
The intention is to build five buildings there. One of them will offer storage space for city residents, which is lacking in Ostrov. Shared workshops or offices are also considered. The buildings will be energy efficient, photovoltaic panels or the use of waste water are planned.
The town hall has already announced a tender for the contractor of the project. The state would have less than two million crowns. The cost of the entire project is estimated at 150 million crowns. Due to the high costs, the city of 16,000 people wants to apply for subsidies from European funds. In the event of an unsuccessful application, the city will implement the project gradually. Construction work should then last about four years.
