The biggest Hungarian commercial bank, the National Savings Bank (OTP) is trying to increase its share on the Romanian market by acquiring local banks. Laszlo Wolf, Deputy CEO of the bank’s commercial banking division said OTP will be targeting banks with low refinancing demands along with a portfolio of solvent clients, but admits such institutions are hard to find. OTP has recently held acquisition talks with RBS and Carpatica banks but these turned out to be unsuccessful.
