Seven years ago, the City of Prague’s company that handles its pipes and sewers sold 40,000 sqm of land along the edge of the Džbán reservoir in Prague 6 to the company Molepo for €74m. Controversey erupted when it became public that the new owner intended to build on the land, which is listed as green in Prague’s master plan, leading the city to attempt, unsuccessfully, to buy back the land. The daily paper Blesk reports that Molepo has submitted an application to have the land rezoned for residential purposes, a move that has unsurprisingly angered local residents who use the land for recreation. More than 700 signatures have already been collected opposing a change of use for the land. Prague 6’s spokesman Ondřej Šrámek told Blesk the municipality’s urban development commission has halted re-zoning proceedings with the recommendation that a study on how the land around the Džbán reservoir be used.
