Panattoni fully lets to DIY store chain Hornbach before construction begins in Neuenburg

8 June 2022

Panattoni is letting the Panattoni Park Freiburg South in Neuenburg on the Rhine, Baden-Württemberg, to Hornbach Baumarkt AG even before construction begins. The family-run company headquartered in Bornheim near Landau in Rhineland-Palatinate is one of the largest operators of DIY stores and garden centres in Europe. Following the resettlement in Speyer, this is already the second let by Panattoni to the well-known DIY store chain within 12 months.

The location Neuenburg on the Rhine serves Hornbach as a logistics centre and is to be used primarily for supplying the Swiss DIY stores and garden centres as well as for retail customers. To this end, the company will move into a total usable space in the Panattoni Park of around 13,900 sqm, consisting of approx. 12,100 sqm of hall space, 1,000 sqm of office and social space and 800 sqm of mezzanine space. The usable height is 10 m (to bottom of girders). In the outside areas, 50 car parking spaces and 3 truck parking spaces will be made available to the future tenant.

As part of the project development, Panattoni has successfully revitalised a brownfield site with a size of around 23,800 sqm in Neuenburg’s business park, which served as a hazardous material warehouse in the 1980s. This required extensive demolition work. The developer is now constructing the new building in accordance with the latest state of the art, taking into account numerous aspects of sustainability. After having laid a WHC (water hazard class) III foil and installed a photovoltaic system, Panattoni is seeking certification under the DGNB gold standard.

“When looking for additional logistics spaces, we struck gold again with Panattoni” said Manuel Werling, Project Manager Logistics at Hornbach Baumarkt AG. “We thank the Panattoni team for the speedy and trusting leasing process, which was facilitated in particular by the positive experience of the collaboration in Speyer.” Without pre-letting, Panattoni is developing the modern property right next to the French border, in the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland. As a result, the Panattoni Park has excellent connections to the A5 motorway and the B378 federal road.

Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner at Panattoni, welcomes the new user: “We welcome Hornbach Baumarkt AG to the Panattoni Park Freiburg South and are proud that it has again opted for our logistics properties. With the family-run DIY store chain, we have found for the planned property the ideal user, which will superbly supplement the companies already located in Neuenburg’s business park.”

The building permit for the project has been granted, and the demolition work has also already taken place. The construction phase started at the beginning of June. The hand-over to Hornbach is planned for 1 February 2023.
