10 May 2022

Panattoni, an industrial builder, in collaboration with the RSJ investment group, has inaugurated the construction of a production hall for the world’s leading supplier of handling equipment, Jungheinrich. The 37,000 sqm building will be part of the Panattoni Park Chomutov North industrial zone and will bring 350 skilled jobs in the manufacturing sector to the inhabitants of the Chomutov region. The investment in the building and modern technologies alone exceeds CZK 1.5 billion and is one of the largest in the region. The building will be completed in the spring of 2023 and Jungheinrich should start production there as early as mid-2023. The project also considers the surrounding area and envisages investing in large-scale biodiversity measures.

“With this new production plant, we are expanding our production capacities in Europe. In the future, this ensures our ability to cover the growing interest in Jungheinrich handling equipment. At the same time, we are building one of the most modern production plants in the world in Chomutov, which will help us take production to a new level,” says Sabine Neuß, Member of the Board of Jungheinrich AG for Technology.

“One of the biggest challenges for the Czech Republic under the Green Agreement for Europe is the economic restructuring of regions, which will have to reorient themselves to another type of industry. One of them is the Chomutov region, which is firmly connected with coal mining. Our company is aware of this great challenge and is therefore pleased to be able to contribute to its solution. The state-of-the-art plant will help revitalize the regional economy, provide 350 jobs for local residents and meet the most stringent requirements for sustainable development. The fact that this is the production of the final product also adds value to the whole project,” says Klára Sobotková, Regional Development Director, Panattoni.

“We are pleased to be able to invest here, to be part of this project and to have Jungheinrich and Panattoni as partners. We believe in the benefits for the region, the local economy and employment, but
and the emphasis on the sustainability of the whole area – these are important aspects of our cooperation as an investor. The construction of logistics complexes is one of the main directions of the real estate part of RSJ Investments and we are ready to invest another EUR 100 million in it in the coming years,” adds Lukáš Musil, a member of the Board of Directors of the RSJ investment group, which is the project investor.

“The development company Panattoni wishes the smooth running of the construction, so that next year it can be completed with a successful approval and people from the Chomutov region can look forward to a new job.
for a prosperous employer with a long tradition. Jungheinrich wants the new production plant to prosper, and the people of Chomutov wish they enjoyed working in the new location and being proud of where they work. Satisfied employees are the alpha and omega of a successful company, “said the mayor of Chomutov, Marek Hrabáč, at the start of construction.

Panattoni Park Chomutov North aspires to be rated “Excellent” within the BREEAM certification. Compared to the original plan, the building will have a stronger roof so that photovoltaic panels can be installed here, which will significantly contribute to the generation of energy for the entire industrial zone. The project also provides for stronger insulation and external blinds to help save energy costs better. The complex also declares its commitment to sustainability by installing charging stations for electric cars.

However, the project near Chomutov also excels with an extensive investment in the support of biological diversity in the vicinity of the industrial zone. As a replacement for the canceled draw, a planting of 1.5 hectares will be used, which will consist of tree and shrub layers with an emphasis on the original species. The area will remain unfenced, and naturally follow the revitalization of the adjacent riparian vegetation. Ponds will be dug in suitable places to increase local species diversity. Additional measures include meadows and birdhouses.

As one of the world’s leading suppliers of intralogistics solutions, Jungheinrich has been involved in the development of innovative and sustainable products and material flow solutions for 70 years. As a pioneer in the industry, this Hamburg-based family business is striving to build the warehouses of the future. In 2021, Jungheinrich, with more than 19,000 employees, achieved sales of 4.24 billion euros. The worldwide network includes 13 production plants and 41 service and sales companies. The company’s shares are listed on the MDAX stock exchange.
