In 2020, the restaurant market fell by half or even less than the level of EUR 3 billion reached in 2019. Expenses allocated to hotels, restaurants and cafes in 2020 reached a minimum of 0.5 percent of average monthly income on a household, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics, in a year in which the pandemic put the lock on the door of HoReCa businesses. Previously, the share was over 2 percent.
In the third quarter of 2020, given that, for a while, the measures had relaxed and Romania had come out of the state of emergency, the share of spending on restaurants and cafes in the country had reached 1 percent of average monthly income per household.
