Pardubice to hold another round of draws for starter flats at discounted rents

1 September 2023

The city of Pardubice will offer 13 small flats for starter housing. It will draw lots on 5 October. Demand for the flats with discounted rents exceeds the supply, the town hall said in a press release. Starter housing has been operating in the regional city since 2016, with the city council renting out 237 apartments. Pardubice has over 90,000 inhabitants.

“We drew lots for 12 flats during June, and now we have to decide on another 13 flats due to the high demand. In terms of layout, in most cases these are flats with a size of 1 + 1 bedroom, which are the best solution for young people in terms of costs to save at least part of the money for their own housing in the shortest possible time, ideally in Pardubice,” said Deputy Mayor Jakub Rychtecký (Žijeme Pardubice/SOCDEM).

The offer includes flats in Ohrazenická, Mladých, Bělehradská, Gagarinova, Nerudova, Staňkova and Lexova streets. The City Hall conditions the favourable rent on permanent residence in Pardubice, which means extra tax revenue for the city. “Many young people work in Pardubice, but due to rising prices they could not afford their first independent housing in the city, so they commute to Pardubice from elsewhere,” Rychtecký said.

Applicants for starter homes will not be required to provide multiple receipts at the time of application. They will provide them in case they are selected. They must then have a certificate of no debts to the city, prove their income, have a statement from the land registry and have no debts with the health insurance company. All other necessary information is on the city’s website.
