Pardubice will not increase rent in non-residential premises

19 February 2024

This year the city of Pardubice will keep the rent in non-residential premises the same as last year. It wants to support entrepreneurs and not increase their costs. The rent clause allows it to increase the rent by inflation, which was exceptionally high last year, averaging almost 11 percent, the town hall announced.

“Supporting entrepreneurs is among the priorities of the city’s leadership. We have extensively considered whether to increase the rent, but given the other costs that have been piling up recently, we have decided not to proceed,” said Mayor Jan Nadrchal (ANO).

Between 2012 and 2017, the city did not raise rents. In the following years, it increased by inflation, 2.5 percent in 2018, 2.1 percent in 2019 and 2.8 percent in 2020. In 2021, because of the coronavirus crisis, City Hall did not raise rents, even though inflation was one percent higher than the previous year.

Last year, inflation exceeded 15 per cent. The city has an inflation clause in its leases that entitles it to raise rents by inflation. City leaders have taken into account arguments such as the economic and energy crises that are negatively impacting the city’s tenants.

“The city’s property is used by a number of entrepreneurs and also by associations and non-profit organisations, which are also affected by the current economic situation. We don’t want to burden them even more, now it’s a matter of making sure they can withstand the current economic situation,” Nadrchal said.
