The number of patents has increased in Romania, despite the recent economic crisis, with 1,489 applications submitted so far in 2012, said deputy managing director of the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM) Alexandru Cristian Strenc.
Submissions for new patents peakced in 1987 – 1988, when Romanians filed 5,400 concepts for consideration, but this figure then decreased until 2007, said the OSIM’s deputy MD. He went onto say that, after a slow growth in 2008-2009, in 2010 and 2011, there was an increase of about 50 percent.
