Payment backlogs: 100 proceedings in 2020

30 December 2020

In December, the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) Tomasz Chrostny initiated another 28 proceedings regarding large companies that did not pay their contractors on time, according to press office of UOKiK. In total, UOKiK is already conducting 100 proceedings regarding payment backlogs. The first decisions are planned to be issued in January 2021.The aim of the proceedings is to eliminate late payments, which are particularly acute for smaller companies during a pandemic. Payment backlogs are one of the biggest problems in the Polish economy and also an obstacle in running a business. Entrepreneurs who regularly fail to receive payments on time for the goods or services they deliver, are consequently unable to meet their obligations. Payment backlogs are especially acute for smaller companies because they increase the costs of their operations, hamper their development, and in times of the pandemic they can even decide about their “to be or not to be”. Therefore, it is extremely important to stop payment backlogs and prevent the damage caused by them to the economy, informed UOKiK.
