The area between Unirii Square and Constitution Square along Unirii Boulevard is to become a pedestrian zone. The project will be implemented this year, General Mayor Sorin Oprescu said. His priorities also include widening the Hasdeu Bridge and carrying out repair works along the Dambovita.
City Hall wants to move traffic along Unirii Blvd from the center to its edges. Thus, the central area, with the fountains, currently used by cars, will become a pedestrian zone, with traffic directed along its sides where the sidewalks are currently located.
In time, Constitution Square will be transformed into an area for events and shows. And an underground parking lot will also be built under the square. The list of priorities includes working along the Dambovita embankment, cleaning the river itself and widening the Hasdeu and Izvor bridges, said mayor Oprescu.
