Penta Hospitals CZ is buying a network of 12 facilities for people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias from the Creditas investment group. Penta announced about the acquisition on Facebook today. Neither party wants to disclose the value of the contract. The transaction has yet to be approved by the Antimonopoly Office. Alzheimercentrum is the largest private service provider for people with dementia in the Czech Republic.
The Creditas Group has owned Alzheimer Centers since 2017. All facilities should be integrated into the Alzheimer Home Institute from the Penta Hospitals CZ group next year, with all obligations to clients and employees.
Penta Hospitals stated that the acquisition of Alzheimercentrum is part of its long-term strategy to become a major provider of health and social services in the Czech Republic. “Currently, our group operates a network of its own specialized care centers for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and our goal is to further develop these centers,” said Barbora Vaculíková, CEO of Penta Hospitals CZ.
Penta Hospitals CZ is part of the Penta Hospitals International holding, owned by the Penta investment group. It operates several hospitals in the Czech Republic, including Sokolov, Roudnice nad Labem and Vrchlabí. It also has a network of outpatient clinics and specialized care centers for patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
Alzheimer’s disease is an incurable degenerative brain disease in which brain cells dwindle and their functions die down. According to data from the Institute of Health Information and Statistics (ÚZIS), 68,120 people were treated for Alzheimer’s disease in the Czech Republic last year. Their number has more than doubled in the last ten years.
Experts point out that the disease remains undetected in a large proportion of patients. According to the IHIS, the disease affects about 160,000 people in the Czech Republic and by 2050 their number could increase to 280,000.
