HB Reavis has secured a permit to demolish the Trangas buildings on Vinohradská třídě in Prague 2. The developer originally submitted the paperwork over the summer, with a view to developing a new set of buildings that it claims will fit into the surroundings more attractively than what’s there today. Remarkably, no one stepped forward with an official objection and the state declined to include it on a list of protected monuments, writing that “the compex doesn’t create an attractive urban environment and with its mass and dimensions it detracts from the city’s historical environment.” The demolition permit is valid for two years, with work expected to begin in the coming days with the installation of fencing. HB Reavis has entrusted the design of the new buildings that will be built on the site to Jakub Cigler Architekti. Work could be completed by 2021.
