The Ministry of Treasury is taking a second shot at privatizing the energy company Energa. Having been rejected by the Polish Antimonopoly Office from selling Energa to PGE, it’s been trying to broker a deal for Energa, which is based in the TriCity area, with PGNiG. Energa’s CEO was never enthusiastic about the acquisition by PGE, but he’s interested in making a deal with PGNiG. “PGNiG was looking to acquire Energa in a few years. But suddenly PGE came out with its PLN 75bn offer,” an anonymous source told Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily. PGNiG stands to benefit considerably from a deal with Energa, as it could lead to shared investments in shale gas power plants. It’s thought that the majority of shale gas that will eventually be produced by Poland will come from the North Sea region, around Energa’s base in the TriCity.
