Phase 2 of Greek economic restart begins next week

11 May 2020

Over one-third of all the businesses closed due to government-imposed restrictions are due to be lifted early next week. In all, a total of 93,000 companies (who employ 156,000 people) are due to reopen their doors, adding to the 66,000 people whose companies opened for business on May 4 in the first round of loosening. Next week, it will be the textile, clothing, footwear and other merchants who will be able to start taking customers again, along with driver’s education schools and book makers.

However, strict rules and regulations will govern how old businesses and stores will be able to operate. A maximum of four customers will be allowed in stores up to 20 sqm, while an additional person will be allowed for each additional 10 sqm of floor space. For stores that are larger than 100 sqm 12 people will be allowed along with one additional person for each additional 15 sqm of floor space.
