A new residential scheme is being built in the block where the Mandysova elementary school school in Hradec Kralove after opposition to the scheme failed to block planning permits from being issued. Local residents fought the developer for eight years but were unable to prevent construction from going ahead. City officials also made efforts in the fight, but it now appears that tenants will be able to move into the scheme, called Pilot 3, at the beginning of 2016. In 2012, the investor said it would abandon the idea only if the city compensated it with CZK 8m or exchanged the plot for land elsewhere, the latter option, however, could not be done legally. Residents are upset because they claim the plot is the only green spot in the vicinity and they worry that the situation with parking will become worse as a result of the new building.
