The Ministry of Environment has approved the widening of the oldest portion of the Prague ring road between Slivenec and Trebonice. The ruling clears the way for construction on the road to go forward within three years, but it includes a variety of conditions. In addition to adding one lane in each direction to make six in total, the conditions include erecting sound barrier walls as well as structures designed to protect amphibians. The Czech Highway Authority (RSD) will hold a tender for the preparation of planning documentation next year. The 6.8 kilometer stretch of the Prague ring road was built in 1983. It’s among the busiest sections of the road as it has to handle transit traffic between the D1 and D5 motorways as well as traffic coming from the inner ring road.
