Planning officials cut Novy Opatov down to size

4 February 2015

A project that would bring huge amounts of new office and retail space to Jižní město (Prague 11) district has been approved by local officials, however with significant restrictions. The developer of Nový Opatov, Reflecta Development, would have to accept building a far smaller building than it hoped and will have to overcome 79 objections made to it during the construction permit process. The project’s EIA has been approved however the city’s environmental committee determined that it will have to settle for a project with 40 percent less capacity and three storeys lower than hoped. The office and retail project would be built on top of the Opatov metro station extending to the D1 interchange and on its northern side to Litochlebske Square. The approved version of the project calls for the construction of 52,000 sqm of offices, 28,700 sqm of retail space and 15,825 sqm of residential space. An underground garage for 1,907 cars would also be built.
