The municipal council of Plovdiv plans to acquire a site in the southern part of the city in order to build a hotel on it. To do so, Plovdiv needs to reach an agreement with Tsar Simeon, the company that owns the land, which has been building a bicycle racing arena (Kolodruma) on the adjacent piece of land.
Having completed the arena, at a cost of €3.9m, the company has not managed to complete a hotel next door, though this would be necessary for the arena’s commercial success. This has led to talks with the city, which also has an interest in seeing the hotel completed. The master plan for the area allows for the construction of a hotel of up to 36 meters to be built on the site. The subject will be discussed and a final decision will be made in the future meeting of the city council.
