The Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) jumped in January for eurozone to 47.9 points, up from 46.1 points in December, according to the recent report from Markit Economics. Market observers have been predicting the index, which tracks market sentiment, could come in at just 47.5 points.
At the same time, the PMI for EU’s key market Germany increased to 49.8 points last month, from 46.0 points reported in December, beating markets expectations of 48.8 points.
Poland saw its manufacturing sector growing to 48.6 points in January, up by 0.1 points compared with December. “This shows that despite the slowdown, the Polish manufacturing sector is stable – production volume for the sector hasn’t changed, compared with the data from December, while exports slipped, but only slightly,” Markit Economic wrote in its report.
