The PMI index for the Polish manufacturing sector increased last month, according to HSBC. The indicator came in at 48.5 points in December, up from 48.2 points posted in November. “Although the index is still below 50 points, the rate of the slowdown shrunk over the last few months,” Agata Urbańska of HSBC told the daily Puls Biznesu. The increase is a sign of the growing confidence among Polish exporters. The export order level is the highest it’s been in a year, according to the daily, which proves domestic factors are heavily impacting Polish exports, rather than the challenging environment in the euro zone. “The industry sector is a driver for the economy,” said Małgoerzata Krzysztoszek of PKPP Lewiatan. According to the daily, the Polish economy will grow in the first quarter of the year.
