For the second time in the last eight months, Poland has blocked the European “Energy Road map 2050”, voting in Brussels against rising carbon emission cuts in all EU’s countries after 2050. The European Commission aims to reduce total emissions by 80 percent by 2050, but Poland sees this as too strict in its case, as it produces more than 90 percent of its energy with coal. “It has been a tough day, and tough negotiations. Once again, one delegation has blocked the conclusions,” said Martin Lidegaard, Danish minister for climate, energy and building, following the meeting. “We can undertake only those commitments which can be accomplished”, said Marcin Korolec, Poland’s Environmental Minister.
