Poland’s e-commerce sector is consolidating faster than expected, the daily Rzeczpospolita reports, with two mergers announced over the last few month. The Polskapresse Group, the majority shareholder in Poland’s top online shopping platform Gruper, recently merged with Zumzi. Active on seven e-commerce market, Zumzi is co-managed by Germany’s Rebate Networks and Romania’s Neogen investment funds. Meanwhile, the Naspers-controlled Agito will merge with the online retailer eMAG.ro, active in Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary. Naspers is an owner of Poland’s biggest online shopping website, Allegro.pl.
Market watchers point out that in order to remain competitive, Poland’s fragmented e-commerce sector needs to join forces, as the US online giant Amazon could soon dominate the local market. They add that the entire region will need to consolidate, not only Poland.
