Poland’s open pension funds expand on bond market

22 October 2014

Poland’s open pension funds are expanding their presence on the country’s bond market, with nearly PLN 8.2bn currently invested, according to the Polish Financial Supervisory. This marks an impressive jump of more than PLN 1.7bn since the start of the year.

The market is also attracting Poland’s social insurance institution (ZUS). ZUS may invest up to PLN 200m in bonds from Poland’s energy producer Tauron, according to media reports. Tauron hopes to raise PLN 1bn on the bond market. This would be the first bond acquisition for ZUS, which has invested mostly in treasuries.
