Czech police detained 22 people suspected of distributing cheap spirits mixed with methanol that killed 20 people over the past two weeks, reports Bloomberg. The suspects may face 10 years in prison if found guilty, the deputy police chief, Václav Kučera, said on Czech TV on Saturday. Meanwhile, the government has banned the sales of spirits indefinitely while police and custom officers investigate the case. More than 30 people were hospitalized and 20 died in the worst case of alcohol poisoning in 30 years. The sales ban of hard alcohol could cost the state CZK 750m in tax revenue losses, or CZK 25m per day.
