Polička Town Hall wants to continue supporting housing construction in the town

16 October 2023

The town hall in Polička in the Svitavsko region wants to continue supporting housing construction in the town. On 19 October, councillors will approve a large number of land purchases and exchanges in the area near Hegerova Street, which the town wants to consolidate and offer to developers or individual builders, according to Mayor Jaroslav Martinů. According to him, it is necessary to allow different types of investors to build flats so that there are enough of them, their price and rent does not increase and the decline of Polička’s population is stopped.

“We have prepared several hectares of land, which are in line with the zoning plan, where apartment buildings could be built in the coming years, or the plots could be sold for family houses. We have put together a package of buyouts worth about CZK 40 million, which is very unique for Polička,” Martinů said.

The city will buy most of the land, and is offering land swaps to farmers. It wants to allow other owners to exchange their land for plots in another location, where there will be the possibility of residential construction in ten to 15 years.

Polička wants to pay for the land purchases from its budget. Increased revenues from the city’s forests make this possible. The town hall already has buyers for some of the plots. For example, the company Koh-i-noor Ponas is interested in land for the construction of an apartment building for employees. According to Martinů, the town hall will sell at no profit, only at the total cost.

This year, Polička sold a former children’s home to STV Group for about CZK 12 million, which the town bought from the Pardubice Region for CZK 4.5 million in 2021. The company is planning to build an apartment building with 32 flats there. The town originally wanted to rebuild the building itself, but because of the high costs it backed out. Another private investor is planning to build an apartment building in the Hegerova locality, while another company wants to build a building with 14 apartments.
