Polish Airlines privatization continues

5 June 2012

A deal on selling the state-owned airlines LOT is back on the table this week, with Poland’s Treasury announcing that talks are on the way with new investors. Following Turkish Airlines’ withdrawal from the tender last Friday, the spokeswoman for Poland’s Treasury, Magdalena Kobos, revealed that LOT is back in talks to strike a deal.

This week, Turkish Airlines announced that its supervisory board had decided to withdraw from its bid to privatize LOT. ā€œTalks with the Turkish operator were pleasant for us and we accept the decision,ā€ said Marcin Piróg, the chairman of the Polish LOT adding that the company is looking to increase its competitiveness.

ā€œWe’re back to talks with the partners who were interested in buying LOT. The adviser on the sale is expected to be revealed this month,ā€ Kobos said.
