Under pressure from the European Union, Polish lawmakers are in hurry to pass a new energy bill that would liberalize the natural gas market. The government hopes to finalize the amendment by the end of the week, with the first reading scheduled for today. “Yes, we’re in a bit of a hurry. It’s related with the proceedings that are now in the works by the European Commission,” said Andrzej Czerwniński, vice-president of the Polish Economic Committee. ”Poland failed to implement a new law to liberalize its domestic natural gas market. The stakes are high, as this negligence could cost us €120 a day. We decided to press ahead on the new bill to avoid the charges.”
